Emily Dickenson
I liked reading emily dickenson ever since high school. I still feel the same way I did about her then that I feel now. When she writes she writes for herself, meaning that this is her expressing her thoughts and not caring what others think because she's not writing for other people to rate her. If people relate to her poems then thats up to them because thats really what I think she tries to do; she writes with the intentions that there's plenty of people who've had their days or moments when they felt like dying, felt lonely, felt like locking themselves away from society, so with that being said she's a very deep poet that has a great use of words to go along with her imagination.

I agree with you that Dickinson is a great poet and she wrote her poems to please herself. I also agree with you that she wrote her poems based on her emotions and fillings. However, I think that her writhing help her release her trapped emotions when depression was messing with her mind. I like your thoughts.
ReplyDeleteYou start out saying, "she writes for herself," but later you add, "she writes with the intentions that there's plenty of people" who have shared the experiences she writes about. I seldom get the sense of narcissism, of being concerned only about herself. She does not suffer fools gladly, but she usually seems to be talking to someone.

I agree that Dickinson uses some great words and imagery. I think there is a good blend between the concrete ideas and the more abstract. I also like the fact that most of the poems she wrote were not meant to be published for the masses, so it seems more personal.
